Description
This painting is named after two of my brothers. I intended to honor them both. One of my brothers is named Royal and another one is named Squire. Squire and my mother had a tropical tree farm near the Everglades in south Florida. Their primary crop was Royal palms. This is a plein air painting of some of the many big Royal palms there. I have never seen Royal palms bigger and more beautiful than the ones that Squire has grown. They seem to be native to the area. When Squire and my mother acquired the property, there were several large Royal palms growing there among other trees.
I enjoyed spending quiet time at the tree farm painting en plein air. Like all painting in plein air, I had to contend with various weather conditions. I was gnawed by deer flies and stung by mosquitoes. I often got sunburn when the shade moved, which it always did. Sometimes I had to make a run for it when a rain storm would suddenly whip up.
I was going through various emotional and physical difficulties at the time of this painting. My mother was dying of breast cancer. She certainly was going through much more. She kept me company while I worked on this particular painting. A few weeks later, she was to ill to go out anymore. This idillic location meant the world to her. She and Squire spent a lot of time there planting and tending to the trees.
This was all part of our coming to terms to what was happening. We had never been so close as we became the last couple years. It was both a wonderful and awful time for the two of us. I loved her and she loved me.
This is an acrylic painting on a 16 inch by 20 inch stretched canvas.

Thank you for the story…behind the painting, AnnaJo!…I truly believe that so many Nature oaintings hokd the mysteries of personal journey, pain and healing. You validate this for me and, I suspect, countless other sensitives. LF

LOL...that might have been a good idea, Gary. I guess that the egret is a dinosaur descendent. Interesting thought.
