I was in the mood! I realized that I hadn't painted a moonscape in a long time. I simply reached into my memory and feelings and found this. I started out with painting the moon that I had seen the night before. I remembered the clouds floating over the moon. It was near Halloween and it seemed appropriate. I could see some stars between the clouds in the inky dark blue sky.

I started to paint the water in the same colors. Somehow that seemed uninteresting. I began adding bits of green to the water. I kept adding the deep turquoise green and enjoyed playing back and forth with the blues and greens. This is a color palette that isn't typical for me. I found it rather exciting to experiment with the new colors. I added some new colors that I had recently acquired. Most of the blues are ultramarine blue, manganese blue, and phthalocyanine blue. Most of the greens are hookers green and phthalocyanine green. Of course, I used white. I didn't use any black. Some of the deep colors are darkened with dioxazine purple.

Part of the challenge for me was trying to smoothly blend the acrylic paints. Acrylic paints dry very quickly, so that is a bit tricky. I used many layers to create some of the depth.

This is a 16” by 20” acrylic painting on canvas. I felt relaxed and enjoyed fiddling around with creating a pattern of waves and colors.
